Being present in the moment

Being present in the moment

आने वाला पल जाने वाला है,

हो सके तो इसमें ज़िन्दगी बिता दो, पल यह भी जाने वाला है। *

There are many precious moments in life that we miss while scrolling down our phones and trying to avoid reality.

It was a Friday afternoon in November. I went on a small trip with my family to the Akshardham Temple.

Since there were no phones or any other electronics allowed inside the temple, I was naturally paying attention to most things happening around me.

As we went around the premises, there was peace and tranquility all around – no selfies being clicked and no clamor for a group photograph and everything had a flavor of connected community and culture.

We spent around  6 hours in the complex including some time waiting in the queue. I was able to concentrate on everything I saw – there was so much to learn about our rich heritage and culture. We were simply admiring the things around us, talking to each other and definitely having the experience of a lifetime.

I was observing things that I never would have if I had my phone with me. I realized that I was truly living in the moment.

We usually get so involved in our own selves and our phone screens that we forget about the things that we are surrounded by.

We forget to pay attention to major things in life.

This whole experience reminded me of some beautiful words spoken by Sadhguru – “when we bring attention to our present moment, we lead a fulfilling life.”

Hey, not the moment when you were reading the last statement about Sadhguru, but this sentence being written by me.

Are you with me at this moment?

In order to entirely communicate with quality, listening is as important as speaking, maybe even more.

It happens so often that when we are listening to something, we are passively listening. It means that we just try to focus on the main things, or the thing that we think is important, and not pay much attention to the rest.

When we fully present ourselves within the moment and just try to listen, we will find much more detail and depth in everything that is happening around us.

How can listening help us in our offices?

Active listening and focusing will help us focus on every detail of the work that our superior might be trying to tell us. We will start to understand things in a manner that we never did before.

The more attention we pay to details, the more we will be able to catch the perspective of the fellow person and implement it.

Such qualities will bring effective change into our work and will bring us closer to success day by day.

Communication is not just about talking. Listening, being present in the moment, and absorbing the content to its most possible limit is a very important part of communication.

This simple change in our habits of listening will make our lives much better and full of new experiences.

It’s all about being in the moment!
