The 9 year old diesel vehicle’s front suspension was asking for repair.

I would need to sell the car this year considering the 10 year policy in Delhi NCR.

Instead of taking it to the authorised workshop, I decided to get it done from a local workshop which was pretty close to my house.

I went to the workshop and met the owner Dhirender.

He gave me an estimate to which I agreed. He informed me towards the evening that the car had been repaired.

I went for a test drive and heard an unusual irritating sound.

Something was wrong.

I had no option but to head back to his garage with a thought lingering in my mind – did I make the right decision to visit a local workshop?

He promised to have it rectified.

He informed the next day that he had been able to diagnose the issue and this was something other than what he had repaired.

He gave me another estimate of Rs 2,500 which included replacing a few bushes.

Was I being taken for a ride?

I brushed aside these thoughts and agreed to his quote.

I was informed the next day that the car was working fine. We went for a test ride and things appeared to be better.

He then stated something which took me by surprise. He said he didn’t need to change any part and the noise was on account of a loose screw!

His team had laboured for more than 2 hours to disassemble a few components and then figured out the noise. The bushes were not replaced.

As I was about to leave, I asked him if I need to pay anything.

He said “No”

I still paid him Rs 700. He expressed his gratitude for my consideration.

He has another loyal customer for life.
