Defining Your True Worth
Defining Your True Worth
I am going to start today’s post with a very difficult and a straightforward question.
What’s your worth?
(I am not asking your CTC or the sum total of your assets).
It’s about your worth as a person.
As you think, let me share two incidents over the last two weeks.
I received an email from one of the job portals shortlisting me for a job worth “x” rupees a month.
I am not looking for a job – that’s the AI tool working on a resume posted more than a decade back!
Exactly 2 days later I received an invite from an MBA college offering nearly the same “x” rupees for a full day session with their executive students.
What changed?
Well, it was the person making the offer.
I am reminded of an old story in this context.
A person pulls out an antique watch from his closet and hands it over to his teenager. He asked him how much would it be worth it?
The teenager looked at it in disbelief. In the era of smart watches, would someone be really willing to pay for this watch?
The father asked him to visit two different places and check the value.
The teenager first visited the scrap dealer who graciously offered him Rs 300 for a well maintained old watch.
He then visited the museum. The caretaker at the souvenir shop told him it could fetch lakhs in an auction.
The teenager got the answer – the worth depended on being at the right place.
How about you?
Are you being valued correctly?
YOU are worth your weight in gold!
