I recently came to know about Anil who works in the training space and could be a good collaboration opportunity!
I spoke to Anil this Monday. He was curious to know about my association with Mr Sharan (who had shared his reference).
I told him I had met Mr Sharan just once in my life and that too through Mr Sanjiva Dubey.
I have know Mr Sanjiva Dubey for many years now. He is well into his 60s and started teaching at an MBA college in Greater Noida post his retirement from the corporate world.
He is an author of a dozen books and is a master of his subject.
I could literally see Anil’s eyes lit up (I could feel it over the phone!). He knew Mr Dubey as he had worked in the same company as him when he started his career.
He summed up Mr Dubey’s persona with the following lines:
वो मुस्कुरा कर देखते हैं
या फिर
देख कर ज़रूर मुस्कुराते हैं
He spoke about the perfect gentleman in Mr Dubey and he being very popular among his colleagues and juniors.
I realised the meaning of genuine praise at that point in time. Normally, people may resort to 3 different ways to praise you:
- People may have good things to say in front of you
- They may praise you in your presence in a party/ office in front of many of your colleagues
- They may shower praises on your social media posts
But none of the above may be as credible as someone praising behind your back, without any ulterior motive involved.
That’s when you’ve arrived in life!
