“I loved the environment and more importantly the caring attitude of the group,” – these were the words of a first time trekker.
People have their own reason when they decide to go for a trek the first time.
But the biggest reason people want to come back the next week is to do with the people in the group.
Recently a person in his 50s had come for the trek. He was limping slightly and when I checked he informed me of some pain in his foot.
We were already more than a km into the trek.
The person should not have come.
Its going to be a long trek (approx 6 – 8 km) and the entire group will need to go slow because of one person.
As I was thinking about all this I heard the familiar voice of Ambikesh Pandey.
He encouraged the person to keep moving.
There was a mandir about 500 meters from that spot and the entire group was supposed to congregate at the mandir on the return journey.
Ambikesh kept up the tempo and ensured that the other person was comfortable. He finally made it to the temple and took proper rest.
The group took about an hour to go around the hill and travel a few more kms.
I was walking with Ambikesh towards the fag end of the trek and complimented him for his gesture towards the injured person.
I happened to ask him on what’s his motivation for getting up at 4 am on a Sunday for the trek?
“Vikas, I love being with nature and good friends. But what motivates me the most is to see happy faces at the end of the trek.”
Ambikesh, you could be the next corporate motivational speaker in Delhi. You’re awesome 🙂
