I love the high octane one hour sessions (keynote talks).
Each keynote talk is akin to playing another T20 match and I want to give it my best!
It may just be a 60 – 90 min session for the audience, but as a speaker it takes 2 – 3 days of dedicated net practice to deliver the flawless onstage performance on the D day.
I recently had an opportunity to address the employees of an MNC where people had come from different corners of the world.
I spoke on many different aspects of teamwork. I can sum up the talk with a Sanskrit shlok:
अल्पानामपि वस्तूनां संहति: कार्यसाधिका
(a group of even small things can accomplish great work!)
The session went off pretty well but I still had to wait for the decision of the third umpire (the HR team!).
I got off the stage and started conversing with the HR person as I walked out of the hall.
He said – “Vikas, I was listening to you all this while and over the last 20 mins was closely observing my people as well. You had their pulse, they were glued to your talk.”
This was the moment of truth. I felt elated, felt like a winner!
And the icing to the cake – the India business head and their global head from US complimented me as they stepped out of the hall.
A genuine compliment from the stakeholders after the session is my parameter of winning!
Ultimately, it’s not just the money but a feeling of accomplishment which motivates us.
