My son said – we could have seen the campus pictures online. Why do we need to physically go to the college?
I visited 3 Delhi University (DU) colleges recently with my son – two in the North campus and one in South campus.
He just wrote his Class 12 exams and would now be appearing for the competitive exams in May to secure a seat in one of the colleges (commerce stream).
I had also taken him to the IIM Indore campus last year (he was contemplating the 5 year integrated program initially but then decided against it, though he loved the campus!)
We had a fruitful visit to the DU campus. We saw posters of prominent alumni being displayed (including that of Amitabh Bachchan in one of the colleges).
He got a chance to interact with 3 professors from different areas of specialisation and also had a conversation with 3 students – Krish from Ghaziabad, Pankaj from Jabalpur and Manik from Chandigarh.
These students came from different backgrounds and shared their perspective of being a student in a DU college. All of them asked him a lot of questions and helped him introspect!
He came to know about the various club activities, the college fests, saw the huge sports complex in one of the colleges and was surprisingly happy to see the enthusiasm and the vibrancy in the atmosphere.
I could see the spring in his step as we entered the Vishwavidyalay metro station.
I asked him if the physical visit was better than seeing all these pictures online.
He smiled.
I could see him researching more on his mobile phone regarding DU.
We finally boarded the train for our return journey. I sat down and started reading my book. My role was over.
I had shown my horse a big stream of water some distance away.
Over to him now!
