Rhythms, Revelry, and Bonds

It’s that time of the year in north India – no I am not going to talk about the high AQI levels.

It’s an auspicious time (शुभ मुहूर्त समय) with lakhs of marriages scheduled in November.

I simply love north Indian weddings – attended one recently.

There’s a rhythm and an energy to the entire ceremony.

The momentum starts when the groom is about to reach the venue seated on a horse or more commonly a buggi – it’s not a chariot, it’s a buggi 🙂

The friends and relatives dance to the high octane beats of the dhol outside the venue – could even last an hour.

One can see Chachaji, Mausaji, Phuphaji and Mamaji dancing with a bunch of notes which eventually gets distributed to the drummers.

Slowly you see the groom’s friends disappearing to enjoy the festive spirit(s)!

One finally gets inside the venue to savour the snacks.

Finally it’s the time of Varmala and post that everyone stands in a queue to be clicked with the bride and groom – it’s a way of marking your attendance!

Is that all?
अभी तो पार्टी शुरू हुई है..

Well, there’s more to the wedding than the ritz and glamour

It’s a celebration of love and companionship – for the newly to be wed couple

It’s a day to forge some new friendships – for the aspiring youngsters

It’s an occasion to strengthen a few old bonds – met two awesome friends Ankur Goel and Sahil Goel after a long time!

I simply love the atmosphere of the great Indian wedding – indeed a very special day!

How about you?
