Storytelling

It had been ages since I attended Ramleela live.

The traditional method had been to enact a part of Ramayan every day with the entire story being completed in 10 days.

Some of the memories which I still carried were of characters dishing out half rehearsed lines, poor quality light & sound system and broken cane chairs used for seating.

An article in HT Gurgaon City edition challenged my perceptions.

There was a full page story about the new age Ramleela’s being conducted across some major parts of Delhi.

I went to Pitampura with my 2 teenagers to watch Ramleela. I wanted them to learn more about our culture and have a good time as well.

We witnessed the new T20 format.

This new concept called Sampoorna Ramayan is a picturization of complete Ramayan over a period of 3 hours.

I saw professional artists in custom fit costumes.

There was a gigantic stage with digital screens at back, excellent acoustics and theatre lights.

Comfortable sofas were placed for people to sit and enjoy the spectacle.

It was unbelievable.

The icing to the cake was the big mela right opposite the Ramayan arena with multiple adventure rides and sumptuous food.

Considering the attention span of my teenagers, we took 2 short breaks – had a few rides, enjoyed a delicacy and again came back to the arena rejuvenated.

It was a night to remember.

My heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the organisers.

Watching the epic Ramayan reminded us of the eternal truth of triumph of good over evil.

यतो धर्मस्ततो जयः

जहाँ धर्म है, वहां विजय है ।

Learning in today’s context is not just about the content.

It is also about the right ambience and methodology and having acclaimed professionals who can keep the people engaged.

It’s about narrating a story which appeals to your audiences!
