The power of a team

Sixteen people slept in a room equivalent to the size of a bigger master bedroom.

We went for an overnight camp (close to Gurgaon) with our trekking group over the weekend.

It was a family outing with over 60 people!

We reached the camp site early evening. We carried our own blankets and pillows. It was a one of its kind bare essentials, minimalistic outing, reminiscent of the olden days.

It was cold and the temperature was expected to plummet further during the night. Tough, but not enough to deter the spirits of an enthusiastic group.

We played a couple of games of Tambola under the starlit sky (and the bonfire light), sang songs culminating into Antakshri and finally getting into the act of Dumb Charades.

What I am going to tell you next is going to leave you perplexed – more than 90% people did not consume any alcohol that night (one doesn’t need external stimulants if there’s a high octane group around you!).

This carried on well into midnight on the last day of December.

We also had a morning trek scheduled.

To my surprise everyone was up and running at 6.30 am for an excursion in the wilderness (after all it’s a trekking group!)

The trek wasn’t a walk in the park and had a fair share of ascents and descents. I did not see a single tired soul.

For once I understood the power of community. It was the energy of the group which pushed each individual to go beyond his/ her capacity.

I was reminded of a quote by Helen Keller – Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much!
