How can the Indian colleges and Universities move up the world rankings?
The IITs have been known to leverage this aspect and I can see this happening in other colleges as well.
It’s the Alumni connect 🙂
Let me share the success story of my institute NIT Kurukshetra.
The institute celebrates 4 milestones for all batches and people turn up in big numbers.
It’s nostalgic.
Love for Alma Mater?
Yes, of course.
But there’s more to it!
At the back end, there is a streamlined process which ensures the success of such events.
1.The schedule is shared with the participants well in advance.
The institute invites batches completing 25, 30, 40 and 50 years of graduation.
My batch will be celebrating 30 years in 2027 (normally Nov/ Dec). There’s ample time for people to plan!
2.The President of the alumni committee is Prof Pankaj Chandna, who is himself an alumnus of NITK.
He is a phenomenal speaker who could give the best professional speakers in Delhi a run for their money. He is truly a people’s man and spends adequate time with the alumni over their two day stay at the institute.
He is the Bond – the Fevicol bond that binds us to the institute.
3.Adequate care has been taken to preserve the old memories.
We have a mock session in our old classrooms, we cross the knowledge bridge (NITK lingo) and play cricket at the same place we played decades back!
The process works, and it works really well 🙂
The alumni ensure their respective organisations visit the campus for placements.
Incidentally, a fund of Rs 1.2 crore was handed over by one of the batches this year to the institute – this goes into research, scholarships and much more!
It’s a win-win for both the alumni and the institute!!
