We are no longer a developing nation.
I heard with rapt attention as Mr Rakesh Bharti Mittal put forward his views in one of the panel discussions at ISB Mohali.
The audience included the who’s who of academia, the best professional speakers in Chandigarh and many industry leaders.
He said we are a developed nation when it comes to Space technology and Fintech (with some of the western economies being far behind).
His words made me realise that many times we undermine our own achievements.
I may not be the best professional speaker in Delhi (as yet!) but I have two winning modules – Emerging Leaders workshop and Sales Mastery.
I bring practicality to these sessions on account of my diverse experience across various corporate roles.
My first takeaway from his session –
“be aware of our own potential”
Let’s get back to his talk. The panel veered towards philanthropic activities in the west which are yet to catch up in India.
Mr Mittal spoke about India’s social fabric. He said almost every family in India supports one more family (of the household help) in terms of material requirements or any emergency financial requirements.
I realised we handed over a 2 month advance to our maid last month as she went to her native village in Bengal to see her family.
My second takeaway –
“the world needs you. Keep doing your best!”
Finally as the fireside chat was about to end, the anchor stressed on the need for more funding for quality research in the Indian universities.
Mr Mittal spoke about the centres of excellence which have come up across various universities funded by some of the top corporates in India.
The acumen of our academia can be leveraged by the industry for mutual benefit.
My third takeaway –
“collaborate to reach greater heights”
Thank you Mr Mittal for the session. It was like having listened to one of the best leadership coaches in Chandigarh!
It’s about time we start realising our self worth, keep doing our best and collaborating for greater success!
