Our ancestors were great scientists.
They knew about the seemingly important days pertaining to the solar and lunar cycle.
They thus created rituals so that a common man too could benefit even if unaware of the science behind the festivals.
One such day happens to be Mahashivratri.
It is believed that there’s an upsurge of energy during this night and is thus advisable to sit upright and stay awake to let the body absorb the cosmic energy.
It’s pretty difficult to stay awake for so long.
The easiest way out is to take the help of some external stimulants (which is the case when people party through a Friday or a Saturday night)!
This night was going to be different.
This is where people like Sadhguru pitch in.
I saw a couple of his promo videos talking about the 12 hour live telecast from 6 pm to 6 am on the Mahashivratri night.
I joined the same from the comfort of my bedroom on 8th March 2024.
Other than the spiritual talk, there were cultural performances, musicians from Europe displaying their talent and the ageless Shankar Mahadevan making the people groove to the beats of some well known numbers.
This was interspersed with prayers and talks.
The whole theme was around playfulness and joy.
It was amazing to see the sea of people wide awake and enjoying every moment (with the right external environment and without stimulants!).
It was a night to remember though I finally called it quits at 1.30 am.
I am told there’s something similar about the Janmashtami night. I am going to explore more about it 🙂
There’s so much to learn beyond what we think we know!
