What could be the gold standard for running an unlisted corporation?
I was in for a pleasant surprise when I visited Surat recently. I had a chance to revise the vedic principles of leadership.
I was in the office of one of the largest diamond processing facilities which employs thousands of workers.
Let me share a few of their principles, truly Vedic principles.
Caring for the environment:
वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् – meaning “the world is one family”
Their facility is housed in a Platinum LEED certified green building. They are aiming to become the first billion dollar company in India to be a Net Zero entity.
Caring for community:
समाजाय सर्वस्वं – meaning “everything for others”
CSR spending @2% was legally mandated in India in 2014. This organisation has been spending much more than that, well before it was mandated by law.
Caring for employees:
Workers are served high quality nutritious food prepared in-house. The same food is served to the management and all guests (the food was awesome – I still remember everything that was served).
I got to know more about the organisation through Dr. Nirav Mandir who spent a lot of time in explaining more about their business.
I was presented the autobiography personally signed by their founder Shri Govind Dholakia, who’s fondly known as Govind Kaka.
The book is titled – Diamonds are forever, so are morals.
I have already read the first 128 pages as I write this post. The book is a masterpiece on entrepreneurship, values and leadership.
I believe Gold standards are passe, they have created a new benchmark – the Diamond standards 🙂
