The X factor

4:30 am.

Saturday morning.

Its the scheduled time during summers to leave for the trek to Aravalis (I am a part of a group which treks every Saturday morning).

One such Saturday was no different when we started. A 40 minute drive to the starting point and we were on our feet.

It was just a few minutes into the trek when we saw a heavy black cloud cover behind us and it gradually engulfed the entire sky.

It literally poured for 15 minutes and we were at the top of a hill with no tree cover.

The heavy rain drenched us completely. The strong wind added fuel to the fire.

I was literally shivering after a while and seemed to be gasping for warmth.

I wanted to go back.

I knew my mind was trying to get the better of me but I wouldn’t let it happen!

I was accustomed to walking with the group in this kind of weather.

I started looking out for something good and realised the following:

  1. I was enjoying the scenic views as very few people were willing to risk their phones for clicking panoramic pictures in this rainy weather.
  2. I had an opportunity to spend quality time with others as there were no huddles for a groupie pic every few minutes.
  3. I had the time to be with myself as there were no selfies to be taken.

By this time I was thoroughly enjoying the trek (thanks to my mind having focussed on the positives!).

The rain gods were in no mood to relent but I no longer felt the rain.

I stopped feeling the cold.

I had a great day!

Isn’t our mind pretty powerful?

The moment it focusses on something good, it stops paying attention to the challenges.

Have you witnessed the same in your life?
