The X factor

I love listening to MNM.

It appeared to be a strange name.

This is what my son told me as we were on our way to the exam centre this Sunday. He’s completed his Class 12 and is now writing the entrance exams for admission to DU (Delhi University) and some other prestigious colleges.

The exam centre was in Noida and we were in for a long drive from Gurgaon.

I was not able to come to terms with the unusual name MNM and asked him again.

Papa, its Eminem, the famous rapper.

I had no clue. I am more attuned to the melodious Hindi songs of the 80s and the 90s.

We then discussed about chess and his ranking (off late, he’s been playing online chess). I shared with him the interesting story of Winklevoss brothers through the book Bitcoin Billionaires (the Harvard graduates who finally were second time lucky!).

I asked him about his belief in God.

He wasn’t sure.

I rephrased my question to which God he admired the most? Shri Krishna was the prompt reply (we had seen all Mahabharat episodes together during the pandemic).

We discussed quite a few things that day.

Net net, we had a great conversation.

We live in an era of microwave generation and instant gratification. We look for optimisation and efficiency in everything we do.

But, there’s no shortcut to building relationships.

One ought to spend time.

Quality, undistracted time.
