I unpacked the bed boxes with my wife in the first week of Jan (it gets pretty cooold in Gurgaon).
It was time for the warm bedsheets, pure wool sweaters, thermals and the extra warm quilts.
We couldn’t believe the number of sweaters we had – how did they pile up all these years?
To add to our dismay, there were 9 sweaters (all in pristine condition) that we had not worn over the last 3 – 4 winters.
We knew for sure that we were not going to wear them this season too.
What should we do?
I heard one of the best professional speakers in Delhi who said – “make space for what you want by giving away what you don’t want”
We checked with our maid and she wasn’t keen (apparently she had enough).
Luckily, an NGO placed a donation box in our complex to collect any unused woollens.
We packed these 9 sweaters neatly in paper bags and placed it in the box. We felt good that someone would be benefited by their warmth.
You might be thinking that this is nothing new and most Indian families would have thought the same.
You are right, but I am not just talking about the intent. We had the intent to give away the sweaters last year as well but didn’t do it.
To accomplish things, one needs to act. As a corporate motivational speaker in Delhi, this is what I always focus on!
An intent to act may not be enough.
In the above case, the donation box served as the catalyst for us to act!
There are many good things in life that we think of but never take action!
-I know of many people who wanted to be authors, but never started writing
-I know of many people who wanted to start a Youtube channel, but never started recording.
-I know of… well the list is long.
They are all waiting for a “catalyst”
