Unbreakable Spirit
Unbreakable Spirit
Have you seen people with special abilities
perform well in life?
Thanks to Kabir Khan, I came across the story of India’s first Paralympic gold
medalist Murlikant Petkar.
I recently saw the movie “Chandu Champion”
Two things which I learnt from Murlikant – Adaptability and Never say die
Murlikant started his career as a wrestler but had to shift to boxing after
joining the Indian Army.
He got hit by multiple bullets in the 1965 Pakistan war. He was unable to walk
even after months of treatment and thus had to give up boxing.
To build up strength, he started swimming.
Ultimately through sheer courage and persistence, he made it to the Paralympics
and became India’s first ever individual gold medal winner by creating a new
world record.
Think of it – wrestling to boxing to swimming!
Adaptability.
I know of people in the corporate world who achieved a certain level of
proficiency but were reluctant to look at better opportunities across another
industry for the fear of starting fresh.
Murlikant did not think twice.
I am sure many of us have meekly given in to a major challenge we faced in our
life. It was easy for us to label that as a part of destiny.
Murlikant did not do that even after being hit by 9 bullets in the war.
Never say die!
You and I may not become Murlikant in our lifetime but may still end up
becoming a much better version of ourself if we decide to live by his
principles.
Jai Hind.
